Magdalena exemplifies the artist's restrained yet expressive approach to still life. A simple arrangement of leafy stems in a blue glass vessel is rendered with broad, confident brushwork and set against an abstracted field of softly modulated color. Rather than describing the subject in precise detail, Bosc emphasizes light, space, and the relationships between shape and color, creating a composition that balances observation with abstraction—a characteristic that has become a hallmark of his mature work

Born in San Francisco in 1940, Marius Bosc is a Bay Area painter whose work reflects both his French heritage and the distinctive light of Northern California. After studying at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, he worked as a graphic artist and designer in New York before returning to the Bay Area to devote himself to painting. Over the course of his career, Bosc has exhibited with Gump's, Ira Wolk Gallery, Dolby Chadwick Gallery, Desta Gallery, and Bryant Street Gallery, developing a body of work that ranges from still lifes and landscapes to figurative compositions.
